Mono Lake

Clouds from a clearing winter storm swirl over Mono Lake, a saline inland sea east of the Sierra Nevada crest in California. In the foreground is a guard rail plastered with stickers, including one entitled "Long Live Mono Lake," the motto of a long-standing environmental fight. For the last several decades Mono Lake was severely threatened by Los Angeles Department of Water and Power diversions of inflowing streams into an aqueduct. Now, due to a court order that limits water diversion, the lake has slowly begun refilling.
